Building a Solid Wood Chest of Drawers

This six-day hands-on workshop provides a wealth of learning experiences for woodworkers of all skill levels. Each student will individually build a small three-drawer chest using traditional solid-wood construction. The chest is a beautiful piece of furniture that will easily adapt to a home or an office setting. The case construction techniques covered in this hands-on workshop can be applied to any solid wood case piece.

This week is jam-packed with great learning opportunities! During the week you will learn:

  •  to choose the best joinery for case pieces taking into consideration such details as wood movement and case strength.
  • how to glue up solid panels to show off your piece to its best advantage
  • how to attach tops
  • how to join rails, bases, and molding
  • how to cut graceful dovetails, and,
  • how to make solid wood backs to create an enduring piece.

There will be demonstrations on matching and re-sawing parts, joinery options, drawer framing including wood drawer glides, stops and dust panels, and a demonstration on how to successfully fit drawers. There will be several mini-seminars, discussion sessions, and slide presentations. You can decide on your need for personal assistance throughout the week.

This is one of my most popular classes and will likely fill up fast. I hope to see YOU!
