Class description:

While the title of this class is green wood chairmaking, what is learned
here is an understanding of wood and some unique approaches to woodworking
that will apply to just about every project you will undertake. Working
with the green wood poses certain challenges but also is a great way to get
a real sense of wood and how it behaves. The basic skills are quickly learned.

We will begin with green maple billets for legs and slats, steam
bending the legs the first day.All the parts will be shaped on the shaving
horse with a spokeshave. We will cover compound drilling holes both
free-hand and with a drill press. Mortices can be chopped by hand or
routed.
By the end of class all students will complete a two-slat ladderback
(mule-ear) side chair with a hickory bark seat.

Materials cost $175
