Tools & Materials for Arts & Crafts Table with Stewart Crick
Below is a material and tool list for this Arts & Crafts class. As for the materials needed (from the cut sheet below), it would be best if you brought the items to class milled and sized with an extra 1/4” in width and 1” in length.
The Quarter-sawn White Oak is not a requirement. Lots of Arts and Crafts furniture was made from Mahogany; and many contemporary interpretations are done in Cherry. Many hardwood lumberyards have QS White Oak available or can get it.
As an option you can order complete pre-cut kits from the school to be here when you arrive. Quarter sawn white oak $575 or cherry/mahogany $500. Includes ebony and hardware.
Regarding the ebony. Students can use ebony - either Gabon or Macasser are fine. There are also several good processes available for "ebonizing" secondary woods. While a bit expensive, and a bit harder to find, those dealers that offer ebony, usually offer small quantities. A piece of stock 1.5" X 1.5" X 12", should be plenty for this project. The school and the instructor will also have ebony available if needed. Estimated $20 per student - please let us know.
