21st Century Workbench with Robert Lang - Tools & Materials
In order to be able to finish this bench in a 6 day class, the school will pre-mill all of the Hard Maple for the bench except for the shelf. The top will end up somewhere between 6 and 7 feet long. If you have a particular preference let us know.
Instead of the more complicated Veritas vise we will build a 24" wooden twin screw vise using independent metal screws. The tail vise is a quick release metal vise with a wooden chop as in the original plan.
Below are links to Bob Lang's PDF article and a short video. As always please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

We will be using the table saw and band saw for rough cutting of the joints and hand tools to refine them. Mortises can be made with a hollow chisel mortiser or by boring and paring. We will use the powered jointer and planer for initial surfacing and hand planes for cleaning up, chamfering edges and final flattening.
A full catered lunch is served every day and drinks and snacks are provided all day. Please let us know of any special dietary needs.
